Mutya is a dynamic queer Filipino artist and empowerment facilitator of Spanish and Malayan ancestry, born a settler on the ancestral and stolen lands of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓-speaking xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sničim-speaking Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples. With a heart full of creativity, she weaves together sound, movement, and visual arts to create heartfelt works that invite audiences to explore themes of hope, deep emotions, and vulnerability.
As an interdisciplinary artist, Mutya traverses medicinal audio transmissions, reverence, animism, experimental film, storytelling, folk sculpture-making and interactive community engagement to narrate her story and ignite positive change. Through her experimentation with vocals, keyboard, looper, field recordings, and guitalele, she crafts spellbinding live performances that are multi-dimensional and evoke ancient memories in those who experience her artistry.
With an unwavering passion for social justice and a commitment to event experience hosting, Mutya collaborates with diverse global organizations to co-create inclusive, vibrant, and prosperous spaces. These environments foster inter-generational understanding, celebrate cross-cultural exchange, promote leadership development, nurture self-expression, and provide experiential education rooted in land and interconnection.
