顏婷妍 is the name that my grandfather gave me. Natalie is what my parents named me. My mother is from Hong Kong and she loves to eat with me. My father is from Malaysia and he is my greatest ping pong rival. I breathe and create in so-called Vancouver, on the unsurrendered, ancestral lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. My practice squats (115 lb) at the intersection of spirit, somatics, and technology-induced melancholy. I am Co-Artistic Director of multimedia performance company Hong Kong Exile, a graduate of SFU’s The Writer’s Studio, a certified teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework®.  I currently write for indie video game company, Sunset Visitor. I am a late sleeper, a late riser, a late bloomer, a latecomer, and a late-night snacker.

Chinese tea eggs are one of my favourite things in the entire world. One of my dearest uncles in Malaysia would make me these.  It is one of my last memories of him before he went missing. The eggs sit in a dark bath of herbs and sauces, and over time become infused with incredible sweetness and flavour.

This image was taken as a remix response to photographer/artist Clare Yow’s work dealing with the intersections of food + culture + race + design.
