PWM Arrivals SeedPool

6 March brought the three-month PWM Arrivals and SeedPool journey to close, and what a ride we had!

From November – 1 February, twelve artists joined AD Diane and co-facilitators Julie Tamiko Manning, Aki Matsushita, Nadia Myre, and Lopa Sircar in the Virtual Research Lab, where we deepened our engagement with personal and world histories that surrounded our ancestral subjects.

From 9 – 13 February, the in-Studio workshop engaged ten artists and many more Ancestors in an embodied collaborative process that drew out the stories that needed to be told.

2 – 6 March was our final phase where all ten artists engaged with our digital platform SeedPool, creating seeds (short poems, songs, videos) that spoke to their experience of the Arrivals process.

Many thanks to Digital Producer Anju Singh, Web Developer Atef Abdelkefi, technical consultant Amelia Scott and Digital Dramaturgs Potato Cakes for your support! Thank you to our longtime partners Playwrights Workshop Montreal.

Join us in congratulating SeedPool artist Laurie-Eve Dumont-Bal who received a grant from Canada Council to fund her creative journey through the Arrivals process and SeedPool Journey. With a 98% score on her application, Laurie is thrilled that her proposal and the Arrivals process described within was so highly regarded.

Here’s what Laurie has to say about her experience:

“The Arrivals legacy process and SeedPool residency has been a deeply meaningful journey on both a creative and personal level. I will be carrying with me inspiration for my next play, newfound interdisciplinary creation tools, and impactful discoveries about my ancestry, my family’s culture and traditions – which inform my perspective as a biracial artist. I’ve also built a sense of community with fellow diaspora artists based in Montreal. My deepest gratitude to the Canada Council for the Arts for recognizing the value and impact of this project, and thank you to the ALP team for all your support and guidance at every step!”

This workshop was funded by Compétence Culture, through the program Intervention Compétence with the help of CFC Montréal.
