AGOGO AYO (gongs of joy or bells of joy)
The 2 indigenous musical instruments used in this music are significant and philosophical among the Yorubas.
Bell is known as an instrument of Joy whenever bell rings, it signifies joy, it produces sound of joy.
Agogo (gong) is also significant been a major instrument used for Ifa (god of divinity). it also plays important roles in Yoruba music; it is during the joyous events or during the IFÁ festival that the gong is been used.
The second instrument “ṣẹ̀kẹ̀rẹ̀” which is also know as an instrument of joy, there is a Yoruba adage which says: “ṣẹ̀kẹ̀rẹ̀ kii bá wọn ròde ìbànújẹ́” (ṣẹ̀kẹ̀rẹ̀ will never be found where they are mourning or sad events).
