I made a mistake in the first recording. Part of this gesture wants to ‘hide’ from the screen. It’s a delay of the head that for me, brings the liminal space into my body. It’s what happens on the “wah” of “hoah.”

Shyamali Khastagir was an extraordinary painter and activist. She is also, simply, my Mashi (aunt). This is one of my attempts to paint like her. This day I was just trying to draw eyes and find the flow of lines. When I looked closer, there was so much more.

An authentic greeting with gesture, created through all my group processes in the last two years, received from the depths of my listening space, and shared with Diane in honour of her work and a very important Birthday I missed.

This video is of a collaboration between Rosemary Georgeson, Jonathan Langdon and Julie Tamiko Manning that took place in September 2023, at The Final Steps, a monument on a pier in Kjipuktuk/Halifax, where each have ancestors that crossed this threshold between land and water.

This is a collaboration with Peter Olalekan Adekokan’s seed Tribute–a drum cycle played for the passing of my mum. Dancing Light video image was captured on the shores of Caribbean sea in Hopkins, Belize during the first part of my Garifuna Sojourn. The drum piece was recorded in Ibadan, Nigeria.
